2011 Tri-State Cow/Calf Conference

A Tri-State Cow-Calf Conference was held in Johnson City, TN on August 15-16. The two-day program included a tour of local beef operations on the Monday afternoon, August 15. An evening meal and educational program featured Kristina Butts from NCBA discussing current issues and policies facing the beef cattle industry. The main educational program was on Tuesday, August 16th with sessions on Forage Management for Cow-Calf Producers, New Tools for Genetic Selection, Managing the Calving Season, Controlling Feed Costs, and Market Outlook. There was also a panel discussion on marketing opportunities and experiences in the tri-state area.  A trade show also accompanied the conference, and included representatives from agribusiness firms supporting the beef business including animal health and equipment companies, feed suppliers, marketing agencies, lending institutions and related businesses.  The meeting was sponsored by University of Tennessee Extension, Virginia Cooperative Extension and North Carolina Cooperative Extension. The meeting was co-sponsored by BEEF Magazine.
